GPS Teenager Tracking

Do you have a teenager who is about to get his driver’s license, or recently obtained their driver’s license? If you are a parent of a teenager like me, then I am sure you are concerned about their driving habits once they go out on their own. We wonder if they are speeding or driving recklessly. Is our teenage son or daughter at the location where they told us they were going? As parents we can’t help but be concerned for our young inexperienced drivers who are starting to spread their wings and leave the nest. A driver’s license to a teenager is a sign of freedom and “growing up”.  I recently went through this same experience with my son. As soon as he passed his test and they issued him a driver’s license, my worries and anxiety went up. I immediately put a GPS unit on his car. Some of you will say, “You have to trust you son.” It wasn’t a matter of trust, but a matter of Peace of Mind. As parents we are responsible for them, especially if they are involved in a traffic accident and it was their fault for speeding or driving recklessly. If you get the call from your teenage driver, or worse yet from the police of hospital, are you going to say to yourself, “I sure am glad I trusted my teenager”?

Within a few weeks I saw that my son was speeding on Five Forks Trickum Road heading to soccer practice. He was running late. I called him and told him to slow down. Of course at that time he knew there was GPS unit on his car. I left it on for another week and made sure he was driving responsibly. I removed it since I needed it for an investigation. A few weeks later I put it back on and in a few days I saw he was on I-285 and going 80mph. I called him again and told him to slow down or he was losing the car. His response was “He was keeping up with traffic”. I told him that didn’t fly with me and he did the speed limit the remainder of his outing. He never knows when it is on there or not. But it has accomplished two objectives. First he is a safer driver, because he never knows when Dad is watching and he sure doesn’t want to lose his car. Second, it has given me and my wife the peace of mind that our son is driving responsibly.
